According to Ayurveda

Sitopladi Churna is a classic formula for cough and cold arising from excess of Kapha (Water) and Pitta (Fire).

It is useful when there is :

1. Shortness of breath
2. Asthma with wheezing from contact with cold weather.
3. Bornchitis
4. Chest congestion due to high Kapha (Water).
5. For seasonal and allergic rhinitis from allergic dust.

It is also used in general debility and weakness in body. It increases appetite and alleviates distaste in tongue.

It is useful in burning of Palms and sole.

Mostly allopathic medicines which are used to cure chronic fever, cough, cold etc. also gives side effects in body by increasing Pitta (Agni) in the body which results in acidity, stomatitis, Gastritis, indigestion. But Sitopladi Churna reduces both Kapha (Water) and Pitta (Agni) and helps in cough cold etc. ailments. It also helps fight the diseases which comes by the side effects of the other medicines.

In Tubeculosis : There is vitation of Kapha (Water) and Pitta (Agni) from its normal position which results in pain in throat, chest, burning sensation in palm and sole, uneasiness, burning sensation in urine.

While taking tubercular drugs one can also take Sitopladi Churnas supplementary to cure above symptoms.

There is no need to stop the main drugs.

During Pregnancy : If Sitopladi Churna is taken during I^st trimester it enhances the health and vitality of the foetus-use under the recommendation of your health care provider.

Sitopladi Churna to Children : Children can be protected from cold by giving them Sitopladi Churna with honey. It is well known and well tested Ayurvedic herbal mixture and has no side effects. It is good for growing children. They may be given a I^st of Sitopladi Churna with half spoon of honey before going to bed.

Rhinitis : Allergic rhinitis is a collection of symptoms mostly in the nose and eyes.

Cough : It is an important way to keep throat and airway clean. Some cough are dry while other considered productive. A productive cough is one that brings up mucus.

Acute cough usually begin suddenly and are often due to cold, flu, sinus or infection.

Respiratory Diseases : Respiratory diseases will afflict every human being at sometime in their life. Whether it is a cough associated with allergies and asthma, respiratory challenges are a constant source of irritation and misery for afflicted.

Coughs are understood to be the result of either infection or irritation of the bronchial tissue and are known as bronchitis. Infectious bronchitis commonly accompanies fever. Cough may be dry or productive. Irritative bronchitis is usually the result of Pollutants smoke, chemicals and may have an allergic component.

Cough occurs when apana Vayu (Air) is obstructed resulting in an increase in upward motion. Vitiation of apana Vayu (Air) propels the air upward and out of the body. Vata may however clog in the chest, back or head resulting in pain and repeated coughing.

All diseases have its physical origins in the digestive system. This is the site of accumulation and aggravation of the doshas. Cough (Kasa) begins with vitation of apana vayu in the Purishavaha srota (Large intestine) Vata (Air) eventually overflows into circulation (Raktavaha srota) and relocates to the Pranavaha srota (Respiratory system). Additional doshas may mix with vata or become dominant. Coughs are often preceded by symptoms of the common cold such as sore throat and a decrease in appetite proper early management of the symptoms can prevent the onset of bronchitis.

Vanslochan (Bambusa Arundinacea)

Bambusa arundinacea is largely used as a cooling anabolic tonic to help in chronic and general debility. It is rejuvenative for lungs and is salutary in cough, asthma, urinary infection, tuberculosis. It is also used in various disorders like indigestion, vomiting, Rakta Pitta, fever and general tonic in convalescents.

Elachi (Elettaria Cardamomum)

Elettaria cardamomum is used internally for indigestion, nausea, vomiting, pulmonary disease, stomach pain griping as well as flatulence.

Dalchini (Cinnamomum Zylenicum)

Cinnamomum zylenicum is used in respiratory tract related problems as it expels out the extra mucus present in the tract. It also acts as antibacterial and thus helps in reducing infections in the body and purifies the blood. It also improves the digestion. It reduces the body temperature and plays important role in treating fever.

Pippali (Piper Longum)

Piper longum is an immune modulating herb. It prevents the respiratory tract disorders including asthma, anti allergic condition.

Dosages : Take 3 - 5 gms of Sitopladi mix with honey three times a day after meal.

Trikatu, Ojas, Enviro Care, Antma Syrup, Chywanprash may also be beneficial to use. 'Kapha Oil' may be useful for external use.

It is impossible to avoid bacteria and germs but living healthy life style by eating balanced healthy diet and regular exercise can help you to remain healthy.

Eat a regulate balanced diet which is low in fat, sugar and salt and includes plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Drink plenty of plain, fresh water.

Note : The only difference is that Sitopaladi dries up the cough and reduces/balances Kapha inside the body by digesting it. Where as Talisdari liquefy the phlegm and expel it through by coughing and vomiting.
